Private schools, in some form, existed long before the concept of free public education in America. Students were often educated through church-sponsored programs, private tutoring, and boarding schools. Public schools on a large scale were proposed by Horace Mann in the 1830s. The concept gained momentum, and by 1870, nearly 80% of kids aged 5 to 14 were enrolled in public schools. Today, according to the most recent enrollment data, about 4.7 million students—or 10% of students enrolled in kindergarten through grade 12—are enrolled in private schools.Private schools are widely marketed as a better option when compared to public schools, and private school proponents will often point to standardized test scores to substantiate this claim. While private school students have consistently outperformed public school students on standardized tests, recent studies have shown private schools themselves are not the primary driver of success, nor are standardized tests the most accurate mea...Avalanche vs. Kraken: Three keys to Game 3 victory for Colorado

Responsible,” coach Jared Bednar said. “All the things that we know him for. He looked like he hadn’t missed a beat for me tonight in a tough game.” Helm has had a difficult...Southern California Air Show kicks off in Riverside this weekend

ARLINGTON, Texas – Mark Kotsay was in the air flying with his team to Texas when he learned of the A’s Las Vegas land deal in a text from general manager David Forst.Less than 48 hours later, the manager and his team – just like A’s fans – were still processing the news that the franchise almost certainly is leaving Oakland.“I feel for the fans with this announcement,” Kotsay said Friday before the A’s opened a three-game series against the Rangers at Globe Life Stadium. “Not just the fans, but the employees that have [spent] their lives here, most that have been in this organization probably longer than I have. Because one of the things about this organization is the continuity and the loyalty they’ve shown to their employees.”Most of the players on the A’s roster are early in their careers or new to the franchise, but Kotsay’s ties to Oakland go more than a decade deep. He played for the A’s from 2004-07, was a coach under Bob Melvin from 2016-21, and is in his second season...Montana House continues to deny trans lawmaker a voice
